After reading the Skinny Bitch, I just had to follow up with the Skinny Bastard and see what was in store for the guys. You can find the review for the Skinny Bitch here if you missed it.

Well, I have to say this book is just as every bit as good for guys, as Skinny Bitch was for the ladies. It speaks directly to what is important to each sex and really brilliantly educates the reader, in the most entertaining of ways, on how to get healthy.

The book is truly fantastic! Whether you are the guy that has finally decided to take your health seriously or you are the girl who wants to inspire her guy with some fun, but serious material, this book promises to deliver.

Hence in this review, I would like to introduce you to this fabulous resource and provide you with more details as to what you can expect from the Skinny Bastard.

Skinny Bastard: The Origin

Skinny Bastard was just published in the spring of 2009 and written by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin – authors of the #1 New York Times Bestseller, Skinny Bitch.

Rory is a former agent for Ford models and is a self-taught know-it-all. Kim is a former model, who also holds a Masters of Science degree in Holistic Nutrition. Today, they both continue to write books in the “Skinny Bitch” line, with their current breakthrough for men and counsel many people around the world.

Their story began when the two authors met at a talent agency and though both were obsessed with food, they knew they could not keep going at the pace they were going. They hence decided to change their ways, and since the changes were so amazing and beneficial for them, they decided to go out and help others by spreading the word on being healthy.

Through this passion, the authors have been able to reach thousands of people around the world, and today cater their nutritional expertise skills to both men and women alike.

Skinny Bastard: The Structure

Skinny Bastard, is also a small book, though a bit bigger and longer than the Skinny Bitch, at just under 250 pages. It is also a super easy and fun read for anyone, starting with teen males, and can easily be read in a day or over a few evenings.

It starts off with a very short introduction, which is hilarious. It is sure to grab the attention of the reader and ease them into the awesome 14 chapters that follow.

Chapter 1 – Give It Up
Chapter 2 – Carbs: The Truth
Chapter 3 – Sugar is for Candy-Asses
Chapter 4 – Meat: Rotting, Decaying, Decomposing Flesh
Chapter 5 – The Dairy Disaster
Chapter 6 – You Are What You Eat
Chapter 7 – The Myths and Lies About Protein
Chapter 8 – No Girls Allowed
Chapter 9 – Dumping
Chapter 10 – Have No Faith: The Government Doesn’t Give a Shit About Your Health
Chapter 11 – Don’t Be a Pussy
Chapter 12 – Soup’s On
Chapter 13 – FYI
Chapter 14 – Use Your (Big) Head

The chapters are just as good and funny as the ones in the Skinny Bitch, but with a great twist that will appeal to guys. And although a lot of the information is similar, this book, contains 2 special sections just for guys when it comes to their health, as well the book is backed up with even more science and recent facts to further strengthen the author’s message.

The book ends off with a very short, but highly moving afterword that includes a quote from “Old MacDonald’s Factory Farm“, by C. David Cootes.

The authors then provide some recommended reading resources and about 40 pages of sources consulted and endnotes, which by the way are from highly credible and well known doctors, researchers and studies.

Skinny Bastard: The Content and Personal Commentary

Skinny Bastard is a book for guys who want to get fit and healthy. Don’t let the word “skinny” throw you off.

It covers everything and I mean everything when it comes to knowing about your food and why we have the problems we have, whether it be with excess weight or any diseases. Yes, you can expect a section on alcohol, coffee, sodas, artificial sweeteners, meat, dairy, grains, sweets, organic food and so much more!

The book even presents the political side of why you need to take matters into your own hands. As well it ties in everything in the end to a healthy state of mind for the best results.

Invest in yourself. You have only one body to get you through this lifetime. So quit eating crap and abusing yourself!

Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin

If you are ready to have all your “man protein myths” exposed, this is the book for you! I really feel for the livers and kidneys, among other things of all the guys out there who still think that the more protein the better.

Likewise the book will dispel the carbohydrate and fat myths. And of course the best parts, the book brilliantly dispels the myths about meat and dairy. This as I said about the Skinny Bitch, is a must read for everyone.

I honestly think, before anyone spends any money on any fitness trainer, nutritionist, dietitian or similar service, they have to read the Skinny Bitch or Skinny Bastard first. It will immediately empower you, save you a lot of money and may even give you all the help and information you need to take your health, into your own hands.

Most importantly it is imperative to know – it is not any kind of diet book. This is an educational and fun resource for a whole new lifestyle – one really worthy of the name “healthy“.

I enjoyed Skinny Bitch so much, and now am as equally thrilled with its equivalent for guys. Thus, I highly recommend it to any males who are looking to lose some weight, get healthy or just plain educate themselves on what is really going on with our food and nutrition.

The style of the writing is laugh out loud funny, bold and written in a no nonsense kind of way. You can be sure it holds nothing back. Whatever you are “afraid” to hear, you will hear it. There is no more hiding, no more pretending, no more being mislead or ignorant after one reads this book.

Unless you’re from Mars, you’ve heard about the “eight glasses of water a day” thing. If you’re filling up on 16 ounces of liquid Satan at a time, chances are you’re not getting your 64 ounces of water a day. So say goodbye to soda and hello to a sweet ass.

Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin

The really best part is that this book is so backed up by credible science, yet written in a way that a person with no science background can easily understand. This is such an important feature of this book, and hence the reason why I am so quick to recommend it to others.

Like the other books in this series, yes you have to expect some foul language, but being pretty conservative myself, where that stands, I think it just makes it that much more real for a lot of people. I really found that through the style of writing that the authors chose, it gives great character to the book, without being overdone or offensive.

What else you can expect from this book, is that like the Skinny Bitch, the reader of the Skinny Bastard is literally left with plenty of various resources. The authors provide a layout of the crucial micro-nutrients, they provide a full four week simple and delicious menu, as well as multiple excellent reading, restaurant and other resources. They have honestly thought of everything to help the person making this change to a healthy lifestyle succeed.

Conclusion

I have to tell you, leaving a review like this behind is always bitter-sweet to me, for as happy as I am to share this information with you, I know that unless you actually read this book for yourself, nothing I say will really give it all the justice it deserves. When I now talk to people or counsel them, I honestly start by asking them to read either the Skinny Bitch or the Skinny Bastard.

They are like I said, quick, easy and fun, such that everyone can fit them into their schedules and begin with a solid background where really healthy eating is concerned.

As I mentioned in the review for the Skinny Bitch, the standard American diet leads to so many diseases and is killing today’s generations, not to mention decreasing their quality of life heavily.

Some people still think that they need to “eat for their taste buds” or that “everything in moderation” is the way to go, or that life is “too short to deprive oneself.” So I say it again and Rory and Kim say it also - there is nothing you would be depriving yourself of by changing your current eating habits, based on the Skinny Bastard ideas, except sickness and pain.

And unfortunately for guys, it seems this message cannot be said loud enough or clear enough, as they are the ones most at risk for heart diseases and many serious cancers today. At the same time, they are the ones most likely to eat the most meat, processed food and alcohol, and the least likely to keep watchful of their health until something happens.

YOU hold the power to change your life, and it’s really so simple.

Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin

Conclusion

It is time to wake up. It is time to stop hiding behind the seriously poor and highly misleading nutritional information we have been given, and “start using our heads” as the authors state repeatedly!

So don’t be afraid to pick up this book and start taking your health and life seriously. And ladies, if you care about your man, then introduce him to this book. The value within it’s seemingly simple and funny pages, is honestly priceless!
